Do Cooling Mattresses Work?

Do Cooling Mattresses Work

Many mattresses claim they offer cooling technology, yet do not live up to this promise. To find a mattress that keeps you cool through the night, look for breathable materials and advanced technologies.

As memory foam tends to retain heat, hybrid or latex mattresses offer better temperature regulation.

Materials

Cooling mattresses use materials that help regulate body temperature, dissipate heat and increase airflow during sleep. These often include special foam comfort layer infusions and cooling gels – and in some cases copper-gel infused foam, which absorbs and retains body heat while dispersing excess heat away.

Other materials, like wrapped wire coils and natural latex, offer greater breathability to allow your body to relax more effectively and remain calm. Most brands aerate or perforate their latex layers in order to enhance cooling properties; natural and blended latex materials tend to have greater temperature neutrality compared to synthetic polyfoam products.

An essential consideration when purchasing a mattress is contouring (how closely it “hug” your body), since this can trap heat. Some cooling mattresses are less contouring than others and this could have an effect on how they feel to you. There are also cooling pillows and mattress toppers you could try if committing to an entire cooling bed isn’t feasible now.

Temperature Control

Cooling mattresses are specifically designed to help sleepers maintain an ideal sleeping temperature during the night, using materials such as cooling gels, wrapped coils and airflow channels that promote breathability. Cooling mattresses may be particularly helpful for people living in warmer climates who tend to overheat during sleep.

Material quality plays an integral role in temperature regulation of mattresses; however, other aspects must also be taken into account such as cover design and other features of a bedding product. Memory foam toppers tend to retain heat unless infused with cooling technologies such as charcoal or gel; you could look for mattresses with quilted covers made of Phase Change Material (PCM) to absorb body heat before discharging it at set temperatures – which helps keep sleepers cool at night! In addition, strong edge support should prevent sleepers from rolling off or becoming stuck between mattress edges during sleep time. The best cooling mattresses should offer strong edge support so as not to cause them any sleepers from rolling off or being caught between bed edges!

Sleeping With a Partner

Investing in a cooling mattress for sharing beds with partners is one of the best ways to help both partners rest more soundly at night. A cooling mattress keeps body temperatures under control and prevents overheating; plus it will make cuddling comfortable if either of you like to cuddle during sleep.

Similarly, if your partner snores frequently, this type of mattress could help both of you rest better by minimizing motion transfer between you, which often wakes one up during the night.

Although many pillow, mattress toppers, and other bedding products boast cooling properties, it is crucial that they contain materials with breathable qualities as well as moisture-wicking capabilities. When selecting sheets that allow airflow through them such as cotton or linen percale or sateen weave sheet sets with percale or sateen weave weave are lightweight yet promote airflow.

Cost

Many cooling mattresses utilize expensive materials and technologies to dissipate heat, making them expensive. If budget is an issue, however, there are affordable cooling options that use less costly materials or technologies instead; mattress pads infused with gel, charcoal or other cooling elements may provide an easy and cost-effective way to add a cool sleep surface and alleviate night sweats.

Other cooling mattress options include using a fan to circulate cooler air throughout your bedroom, opening windows to create cross breezes, and placing ice cubes beneath the pillow. Some cooling mattresses feature copper-gel infused foam cores that conduct body heat away from you by sticking onto excess body heat; in addition, these mattresses often include multiple layers of different foams with convoluted designs around their centers to let air pass freely.
