Sun Mattress,LLC, an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., acquires Mattress Firm, Inc. from an affiliate of Sealy Corporation

SUN CAPITAL PARTNERS, INC., a Boca Raton-based private investment firm, announced today that one of its affiliates, Sun Mattress, LLC, has acquired 100% of Mattress Firm, Inc. (formerly known as Malachi Mattress America, Inc.), a privately-held company based in Houston, Texas which owns, operates, and franchises specialty sleep stores under The Mattress Firm. Mattress Firm, Inc. was acquired from a group of private investors including an affiliate of Sealy Corporation that is controlled by Bain Capital.

Founded in 1986, Mattress Firm has become one of the largest bedding retailers in the US with 175 company-owned stores in 19 markets, and a strong and experienced franchisee network. In total, the company has over 300 stores in 39 markets and is one of Sealy’s largest customers.

“This ownership change provides the capital structure we need to continue our momentum to become the country’s largest bedding retailer,” said Gary Fazio, Chief Executive Officer of Mattress Firm, Inc. “We are very pleased to partner with a private equity group that understands both the retail and the Home Furnishings markets,” added Mr. Fazio.
